Mary Mackillop’s Feast Day
Last Friday, we gathered as a school to celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop, which is held annually on August 8th. Mary MacKillop, Australia's first saint, dedicated her life to helping those in need, especially through education. She inspired the Josephite Sisters, who went on to establish schools like our own, St Matthew’s. We honour her legacy by remembering her kindness, faith and care for others, and we aim to follow her example in our daily lives.
As part of our celebration, our Year 6 students led a beautiful prayer liturgy focused on our theme of strengthening faith communities. They reflected on the scripture from Colossians 3:12–17, reminding us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, patience and above all, love. Their thoughtful reflections encouraged us all to live out these values, helping to build a more welcoming and supportive St Matthew’s community.
The Assumption of Mary
This Friday, August 15th, we will come together again to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. This special feast reminds us of the moment when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up to heaven, body and soul. Our Year 2, 5 and 6 students will be attending the Parish Mass at 9:30am, and we warmly invite all families to join us for this meaningful celebration.
Sacramental Program
Looking ahead to the weekend, we also begin our Sacramental Program for First Eucharist. Families will attend one of the Commitment Masses at
- St Matthew’s Church – Saturday at 6:00pm or Sunday at 8:30am
- St Vincent’s Church – Sunday at 10:00am
We pray for all the children and their families as they begin this special journey. May they feel the support of our school, parish and wider community as they take this important step in their faith. The First Eucharist Masses will be held on Saturday, September 13th, and Sunday, September 14th. We encourage everyone to come along and support these students as they grow in faith.
Thank you for your ongoing support in making St Matthew’s a place of faith, kindness and belonging.
Warm Regards,
